Jimmy Eat World - A Praise Chorus

Stockholm Syndrome - blink-182

Tomorrow I have the privilege of seeing two of my pre-teen musical obsessions! Blink 182 was just one of those bands I could never get enough of. With each song comes a memory and a story. They were that band that really dissipated my pre-teen and teenage angst.

And I can't forget Jimmy. I feel that my attachment to Blink climaxed then eased off although I still maintained a deep connection to the music. Jimmy Eat World on the other hand, I still very attached to and still REGULARLY listen to!

focusfocusfocusfocus

Suffering from a severe lack of focus...

Have you ever found yourself with a due date closely approaching (as in a physics assignment due in 1hr 36 min) and all you can do is think of all the amazing concerts coming to the valley while constructing a detailed list of all the bands you want to see and making sure you don't have exams the next day?!!

oh...

no?

I guess it's just me.

P.S. Blink 182, Jimmy Eat World, Matt and Kim, THRICE, INCUBUS, Young the Giant...all in a FIVE day period...I'm in heaven. (and my wallet is suffering from a drought)

Running through sprinklers

Today...I had a killer exam that I feel like I failed but my day really just got better from there. Work was...well...work. But I had some great convos! I work at a manufacturing company which means LOTS of people under one roof. I've met so many interesting people. For some reason, 2nd shift employees seem to be the most interesting people. Something about working 3pm to 1am just attracts really diverse characters. For example, there's Mark who always comes in with his sunglasses on, is always always smiling, gives me flavored cream cheese, and likes to tell me about his granddaughter. Then there's Mila. Such a warm, friendly, and open person! I love her. She is one of those people whose honesty borders discomfort, but she means well. The first conversation I had with her, she pulled out a zodiac book of birthdays and told me my fortune for the remainder of the year! I was born in the year of the monkey, which I thought was cool. Anywho, she is great. She is total femme and speaks with great wisdom and insight. She told me to tell my dad he is lucky because, "He has byooteeful dawhters! And gude smart girls too! He lucky. Tell yoh dad." She's so cute. My dad chuckled after I told him.

I went to my parent's house for the night and after dinner I decided to take a ride on my longboard through the neighborhood. It was amazing. There is a huge contrast between where I live and where my parents live. But of course, I live in one of the largest college towns in the nation. There is just something so welcoming and a warmth so pure in a family-friendly residential suburban neighborhood, and especially the one I grew up in! I found my parents taking a walk and joined them in a walk through a nearby town. It brought me so much joy to just walk and talk with my parents. We walked on a sidewalk and to our surprise the sprinklers were hitting us face-first for a stretch of about 30yards! My dad mentioned something about sewer water and we just booked it. Might sound lame (it's really not) that is the most fun I've had in weeks.

Running through sprinklers. I think it's that familiar and fleeting feeling of being a kid. What joy. :)

I'm realizing how easy it is to forget about things we love to do, or things we once loved to do, and how easy it is to lose one's identity and sense of self in the busyness of life. Longboarding and running through sprinklers--made my day :)

Cute old couples

I went on a drive today looking for a nice picture of the temple to frame and hang in my apartment. While close to the temple, I drive around aimlessly for a while just parousing around like I do sometimes when procrastinating diff. eq...or physics...or matlab...ugh matlab...when I saw the most precious scene!
If you take a particular route to the temple, there's a street that takes you straight to the front of the main entrance of the temple. As I neared the temple, an absolutely adorable older couple was walking down the stairs of the main entrance of the temple hand in hand, it was so precious.
I hope me and my future husband are that cute and that in love at that age. We'll make it happen. Whoever he is, I'm sure he's wonderful.

Having fun isn't hard, when you've got a li-bra-ry-card!

That's a song from Arthur btw. So catchy! I wonder who wrote their jingles...10 years later and I'm still singing that song in my head. That person deserves a medal.

The joys of skool

Well, I didn't intend for this to become a venue for my complaints...but...I just a have a few to get off my chest if you will bear with me. I didn't expect engineering school to be any thing close to a walk in the park, but boy is it tough sometimes. It's pretty sucky when you spend about 15 hours on an assignment, stay up until 3am, plan to wake up at 5 the next morning but you accidentally wake up at 6:00, making it 15 minutes late to class, which is cause for a whopping 20% deduction on the assignment grade. This was, in my mind, my best one yet, a perfect candidate for that A I've been working so hard for. My heart is sad.

Lesson learned: Cannot (and will never again) be late!

On a lighter and happier note, life is good. I had a great conversation with a friend about how engineering is really a lifestyle choice, believe it or not! I'm getting my schedule in order and I've really been trying to be more time efficient and conquer my weakness and greatest enemy: procrastination. We've never been friends.

Work is great, I'm getting to know more people in the company I work at which always makes the environment more enjoyable. I have come to the realization that people make all the difference. Whether it's in school or at work, it's the people that make everyday worthwhile. I find so much joy in getting to know people, their backgrounds, culture, philosophies, and ultimately, what drives them. It's so fascinating to me. I think our society would be a wonderful place if we all made an effort to get to know each other and understand where our differences and similarities are rooted, as opposed to our typical me me me mentality. What a world this would be. Also, I think sometimes people just need to talk to someone!

Goodbye! (physics is calling!)

I get by with a little help from my friends...

That song was written for me! Everyone probably feels that way...but, really, where would we be without our friends?! There is no way I could get through engineering school without the great friends I have been blessed with along the way. It is so easy to get overwhelmed in such a difficult and demanding field of study, but having friends and a strong support system makes every day manageable. It isn't always necessarily the direct academic support, but more importantly, it's the motivation, enthusiasm, and passion that friends share that inspire me to keep going. So blessed.
